September Asters: The aster is related to the sunflower and the daisy, and is can be very similar aesthetically. The flower blooms in late summer and early fall, which differentiates it from many other flowers which appear much earlier in the year. This fact alone makes it the perfect seasonal choice for September birthdays. The name “aster” is derived from the Greek word for “star”. Aster feature a center disk comprised of more than 300 miniature flowers, and ray petals (or florets) are arranged in a star shape around the disk.  Asters occur in diverse hues, yet are easily distinguished from other similar varieties  – the central of an aster is always yellow, regardless of the petal’s coloring.

Sapphire Blue Flowers: The vivid sapphire is one of the most coveted gems in the world. Like the aster, it’s name has an astral connection – in fact, it’s name in the Greek means “celestial”. Royalty in ancient cultures wore the stone as a part of their robes, and it was also considered to have divine origins. Sapphires occur naturally in many hues, including shades of green and orange, but it is the iconic brilliant blue which is most valuable and recognized. When designing September birthday bouquets, blue flowers are a unique choice.

There are few flowers which grow in shades of true blue. Flowers such as blue delphinium, blue hydrangea, forget-me-nots, or blue iris are popular choices, but the best choice for September birthdays may be the blue aster, a beautiful flower which reflects both the birthstone and the birth flower of the month.
