Administrative Professionals Day is observed both in the United States and across the world, even though it has never been made an official holiday. Here in the US, there are nearly 9 million people who are classified as administrative personnel, and this day puts a spotlight on their hard work and numerous contributions both to individual organizations and the overall economy, including right here in Wilmington. Julia’s Florist recognizes this day and encourages you to show your administrative personnel that they are appreciated for the job they do every day.
Historically, during World War II, talented administrative staff were in high demand. The National Secretaries Association was established to recognize the efforts of secretaries and other support personnel, to encourage their personal development within their chosen field of expertise, and to attract more career minded people. The group’s name was revised several times to reflect changing culture; first to the Professional Secretaries International in 1981 and, ultimately the International Association of Administrative Professionals (IAAP) in 1998.
There have been changes like the job requirements and expectations of the discipline as well. In recent years, the IAAP has concentrated on continuing to expand the role, influence and opportunities of the administrative professional, offering education and networking resources.
We can think of no more appropriate way to honor your critical support employees than with a gorgeous green plant or flowering exotic display – not only will they bring elegance, life, and energy to any office workplace, they will last long after the day they are given. Every time they see the arrangement on their desk, they will be reminded of your recognition of them. So on April 27, don’t let the opportunity pass you by – thank your favorite administrative professional with a gift from Julia’s Florist.
