5 Flowers for Which We’re Thankful

Flowers are always in season and in style at Julia’s Florist, serving Wilmington, North Carolina, and the surrounding areas. We truly believe in the year-round wonder of flowers. They’re not only fragrant and beautiful but also have some pretty amazing health benefits that people can enjoy just by spending time around flowers. For example, those recovering from surgery, illness, or injury surrounded by flowers have been shown to improve more quickly. Flowers can also lower stress and blood pressure, improve your mood, and boost your memory.

With so many incredible benefits, there’s no reason to wait for the next special occasion or holiday. Why not order flowers today?

Some of the Most Popular Flowers

Flowers become popular for their exceptional beauty, fragrance, or important symbolic meanings. For example, there was a time when tulips were so highly valued that they could be used traded as currency. They also comprised the majority of Holland’s economy. Although they’re still well-loved today, you probably won’t see anyone who’s willing to pay thousands of dollars for a single tulip bulb. Regionally, lotus flowers and camellias are very popular in East Asia but rarely used in other parts of the world.

It’s hard for florists to narrow down their favorites to just five, but we chose ours based on their beauty and versatility in a variety of floral arrangements.

1. Roses

We love roses for their timeless beauty and elegance. They bloom in so many colors and are so special that each variety has earned its own symbolic meaning. You probably already know that red roses symbolize romance, but did you know lavender roses are for love at first sight? Pink roses represent admiration, blue roses represent the unattainable, and yellow roses are for friendship — just to list a few.

2. Orchids

Orchids are another favorite. We love these exotic flowers for their unique looks at the sheer number of species available. One of our favorite types of orchids are cymbidium orchids, but they’re all special. These flowers make great gifts for women, as they represent exotic beauty, glorious femininity, mature charm, refinement, and thoughtfulness. In the above arrangement, the orchids splendidly stand out in their uniqueness against a bunch of colorful roses.

3. Sunflowers

Sunflowers represent pure thoughts, dedication, and adoration. They’re a favorite for creating a cheerful arrangement of bright colors, but their sunny yellow petals and large blooms do well in autumn floral arrangements, too!

4. Tulips

Thanks to their once worldwide popularity and value, tulips boast thousands of varieties, which makes them exceptionally versatile in floral designs. We love them all year, but they’re especially wonderful for springtime occasions. Symbolically, tulips are used as a declaration of love. In the above arrangement, the bright pink tulips offer a wonderful contrast with the paler pink roses and greens.

5. Hydrangea

Hydrangea is available in pastel and saturated shades of pink, blue, and purple. Their snowball-like flower clusters also bloom in white and green. They represent gratitude at being understood, which makes them perfect for a close friend or confidant.

What Your Favorite Flower Says About You

Flowers all have their own unique symbolic meanings. Some people also believe that a person’s favorite flowers can tell you something about his or her personality. For example, people who love baby’s breath are thought to be young-at-heart, and lilac lovers are said to also enjoy nostalgia. If you love tulips, you also probably value your family above everything else. Orchid lovers are mysterious, while those who favor roses know how to bring out the best in others.

How Do I Order Flowers?

When ordering flowers for someone, it’s important to think about your relationship, the occasion, and the sentiment you want your floral gift to convey. We highly recommend reserving red roses for romantic relationships and occasions only. It’s also a good idea to save all-white floral arrangements for more somber events, as they tend to represent sympathy and remembrance. If you’re uncertain about which floral arrangement would be best, we recommend selecting a multi-colored design featuring lots of different flowers. Choose anything that catches your eye, as you really can’t go wrong with this style!
