Each year in February, there is a global celebration of generosity, compassion, and goodwill. The origination of Random Acts of Kindness Day is not known for sure, with some crediting folks in Denver and others a young man in New Zealand. Regardless of how it started, it does seem to be inspired by the phrase “Practice random acts of kindness and senseless acts of beauty,” which was coined by Anne Herbert in the 1980s. Celebrating spontaneous acts and small but meaningful gestures, the holiday gives people an opportunity to share kindness alongside people all across the country, and around the world. At Julias Florist, we know that the world can always use a little more beauty – it is what we do every day! And we are eager to assist you in all of your good deeds this February 17th.
“Do your little bit of good where you are; it’s those little bits of good put together that overwhelm the world.” -Desmond Tutu
Some of the sweetest gestures are often small and simply show that you care. Writing a short note in a card left at a neighbor’s front door, baking cookies for the teacher’s lounge at your school, or giving someone a ride to the grocery store are actions that are sure to be appreciated. Try purchasing a bouquet of daisies, carnations or roses and passing them out to people you encounter throughout the day- the checkout girl at the grocery store, the crossing guard at your child’s school, or the bank teller who always has a smile. Everyone we meet is a potential candidate for a little unexpected joy, and you could be just the person to deliver it!
As you go throughout your day, spreading joy and goodwill around Wilmington – let Julia’s Florist help you out! Our flowers are a beautiful touch to any unexpected gesture – and our floral experts are ready to provide advice, ideas, and of course, beautiful flowers to complement your day of kindness!
